How

Roku provides the simplest way to stream entertainment to your TV. With thousands of available channels to choose from.

If you see a 'Make sure your Roku device is powered on and connected to your WiFi network' message on the device selection screen in the Roku app, your Roku device was not detected over your network.

First, try going through network setup to ensure your Roku device is visible ('awake') on your home network: Go to Settings >Network from your Roku device (or Settings > Network > Repeat guided setup from an original Roku device).

After you have successfully checked your connection, tap 'Try Again' in the Roku mobile app.

If that did not work, try exiting the Roku app, turning your phone's (or tablet's) Wi-Fi off and on and re-entering the app.

Next, confirm your Roku device is on the same network as your phone:

  1. On your phone, open Settings and check your network's IP address. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Your network name and write down the number next to 'IP Address.' Your IP address will be a four-part number (e.g. 192.168.0.125).
  2. Now, check the IP address of your Roku device. If you have a Roku TV, go to Settings > System > About. For all other Roku devices, go to Settings > About from your Roku device (Settings > Player info from original Roku device). Write down the number next to “IP Address.”
  3. The first three of four numbers of the IP address of your phone and your Roku device should match (e.g. 192.168.0 from IP address 192.168.0.101). If these numbers do not match, your Roku device and phone are not on the same network.

If the IP address numbers match, you can connect manually by entering the IP address of your Roku device in the Roku app. Tap 'Connect Manually' in the mobile app and follow directions.

If the IP address numbers do not match and your Roku device and phone are not on the same network, try the following:

  • If your Roku device is connected via Wi-Fi, check that your phone or Roku device aren't accidentally connected to a neighbor's Wi-Fi network.
  • If your Roku device is connected via Ethernet, connect it wirelessly to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. Go through Wi-Fi setup on your Roku device by selecting Settings > Network. Have your network password ready.
  • If you are using a combination cable modem/wireless router, try adding a separate wireless router to your network and connecting your Roku device and phone to it.
  • If you have multiple wireless routers in your home, check that your Roku device and phone are connected to the same router (same SSID).

If the app still does not show your Roku device, try powering down your Roku device, phone, and router. Restart all devices, wait 3 minutes, then launch the Roku app again.

SoundBridge/SoundBridge Radio Static IP Assignment

The below instructions describe the process for manually assigning the IP information for the SoundBridge/SoundBridge Radio. These instructions are for Windows XP. If you are using an operating system other than Windows XP, you will need to know how to telnet and obtain/change your IP information using that operating system.

How To Find Your Roku Ip Address

Verify Your Network Settings

How
  • Check the IP address that you are getting on your SoundBridge by going to System Configuration > Show Wired Ethernet Status or System Configuration > Show WiFi Status (depending on how you have it set up) from the SoundBridge main menu. You will need to scroll down to find the IP address.
  • Write down the IP address, netmask, and gateway listed.
  • On your computer go to Start > Run….
  • Type cmd and select Ok.
  • At the prompt type ipconfig and then press Enter.
  • Write down the IP address, netmask, and gateway listed.

The SoundBridge address and the computer address will need to be on the same network in order to configure the static IP. The IP numbers should be similar, but the last number should be different. If your computer's IP starts with 192.168 and the SoundBridge's IP starts with 169.254, you will need to change the IP on your computer to be on the same network as the SoundBridge. Proceed to Change Your Computer's IP Address if these numbers are different. Otherwise, skip to Telnet to the SoundBridge.

Change Your Computer's IP Address

The following instructions are used to configure your computer to the same network as the SoundBridge if the SoundBridge has a link local (169.254) address.

  • On the computer go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections.
  • Right-click on the appropriate adapter (this is usually Local Area Network) and choose Properties.
  • Double-Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and choose Use the following IP address:. Enter 169.254.1.1 for the address and 255.255.0.0 for the network mask. The default gateway can be left blank. Click Ok and Ok again to dismiss the dialogs.

The computer should now be configured to communicate with the SoundBridge.

Configure the IP Address

You should now be at the SoundBridge prompt.

  • Type ipset and then press Enter.
  • You will now be asked whether you wish to do an Automatic or Manual assignment.
Enter M for manual and press Enter.
  • For the IP address, you will want to enter a valid IP address (ex. 192.168.1.2).
  • For the Netmask enter 255.255.255.0.
  • For the Gateway enter the IP address of your router (ex. 192.168.1.1).
  • You may be able to use your router as the DNS address. If this does not work, then you can obtain correct DNS addresses by accessing the configuration pages of your router. Either enter the IP address of your router for DNS1 and DNS2 or use the DNS addresses listed on your router's configuration pages.

The static IP change for your SoundBridge should now be complete. If you changed the IP address of your computer to do this, change the IP address back to DHCP addressing at this time.

  • On the computer go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections.
  • Right-click on the appropriate adapter (this is usually Local Area Network) and
    choose Properties.
