If you are looking for the IP Address of your wireless printer, you will find below different methods to find Printer IP Address in Windows 10.

Your WiFi extender (also called a WiFi repeater) doesn’t have an IP address, unless it has other functions of course. That’s because it works below the IP level.

The most simple way to find your own subnet mask is to run a simple command line in windows. Simply press the Windows key and “R” at the same time to open the command prompt and type “cmd” followed by “enter.” Type the ip config command (in the red box below) This will allow you to see your subnet mask (as shown below!). Type 'ipconfig' to find your network address. The network address is found by performing a logical AND operation on your IP address and the subnet mask. For example, if you IP is 192.168.1.101 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, then the network address is 192.168.1.0. Ping your network using a broadcast address, i.e. 'ping 192.168.1.255'.

The Internet Protocol Address (or IP Address) is a unique address that computing devices such as personal computers, tablets, and smartphones use to identify itself and communicate with other devices in the IP network. Any device connected to the IP network must have a unique IP address within the network. In the Select Network Protocol window, choose TCP/IP and click OK, then follow any on-screen directions. Similar to any other connected device, a wireless printer is identified on the network by its own unique IP Address.

This allows other devices on the network to identify the wireless printer and connect to your printer using its IP Address.

In general, users want to known the IP Address of Printer to troubleshoot connectivity problems and also to Add Printer using IP Address.

1. Find Printer IP Address by Printing Configuration Sheet

Many Wireless Printers list IP Address on the configuration page, which can be printed by pressing and holding the Power button for 10 seconds.

On some other printers, the Configuration page can be printed by going to the Control or Settings Panel located on the Printer (Usually by going to Menu > Information > Print Configuration).

If your printer is different, check the User Manual to see if the IP Address is listed or if it provides a method to print the Configuration page.

2. Find Printer IP Address From Router

If the Network Printer uses DHCP, you should be able to find its IP Address by logging into the Router.

1. Switch ON the printer, so that it can connect to the Router.

2. Open Chrome or any other Web browser on your computer > type Router iP Address into the Address bar and press the Enter Key.

Note: Your Router may have a different IP Address, see this article for more information: How to Find Router IP Address.

3. On the next screen, Login to the Router by entering your Router User Name and Password.

4. Once you are logged-in, you should be able to find the IP Address by going to Wireless Clients List (under DHCP or Advanced section).

Note: Above steps may not be applicable or vary, depending on the model of your Router. Refer to the Router Manual or visit the Manufacturers website for the exact details.

3. Find Printer IP Address Using Settings

You can find the IP address of printer by going to the Settings Menu on your Windows 10 Computer.

1. Open Settings on your computer and click on the Devices tab.

2. On the next screen, click on Printers and Scanners in the left-pane. In the right-pane, select your Printer and click on the Manage option.

4. On the next screen, select you printer and click on Printer Properties option.

5. On Printer Properties screen, you should find the Printer IP Address in “Location” section of the General tab.

If you cannot find Printer IP Address in General tab, click on the Ports Tab and select the Port that has the check mark.

Widen the first column (Port) to see if the IP Address is listed. If not, click on Configure Port option and you should be able to see IP Address on the next screen.

4. Find Printer IP Address Using Control Panel

If you are unable to print the configuration page, you can find the IP Address of your Printer by going to Printer Properties page.

1. Right-click on the Start button and click on Run.

2. In Run Command window, type Control Panel and click on OK.

3. On Control Panel screen, click on View Devices and Printers link located under Hardware and Sound section.

4. On the next screen, right-click on the Printer and click on Printer Properties option.

5. On the next screen, you should be able to find Printer IP Address in Location section of General tab.

If you do not find Printer IP Address in the General tab, click on the Ports Tab > select the Port with the check mark and widen the Port column.

If IP Address is not listed in the Port column, click on Configure Port option and you should be able to see IP Address on the next screen.

3. Find Printer IP Address Using Command Prompt

1. Right-click on Start and click on Command Prompt.

2. On Command Prompt screen, type netstat -r and press the Enter key.

Once the command is executed, you will find IP Address of all network connections listed, including the IP Address of your wireless printer.

Note: This method won’t work if the printer is going through network or connectivity problems.

Let’s start with the most basic method of finding your own local IP address in two easy steps.

  1. Open a command line window. In Windows, you can do this by pressing Windows Key + R, and then typing cmd in the Run box and hitting enter. In Linux, this can be done by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T.
  2. Type ipconfig in the command line if you’re on Windows, and ifconfig if you’re on Linux. Press enter to get a list of your PC’s IP configuration.

In the command prompt, you’ll find your IPv4 address towards the top. Under it, you’ll see your subnet mask and your default gateway. This information is vital, especially if you’re having issues connecting to the internet.

But what about finding other IP addresses that might be on your network?

To find other IP addresses that are on your local network, type arp -a in the same command prompt window and press enter. A list of IP addresses will populate on your screen along with additional information you might find helpful.

In the far left-hand column you’ll see a list of IP addresses that were discovered on your network. Towards the bottom of the list, you may see some addresses starting with 224, 239, or 255. These addresses are generally reserved by your router for administrative purposes, so these can be looked over.

Physical Addresses

In the second column under Physical Addresses we’ll see each device’s physical address. This is also commonly referred to as a MAC address. A physical address is a unique identifier that every network device comes with. Unlike IP addresses, this number cannot be changed. Knowing a device’s physical address is important, especially if you want to identify exactly what is on your network.

Type

The last column displays the address’s type. There are two types of IP addresses, dynamic and static. A dynamic address means that a DHCP server gave that device an IP address. A static address means that the device was configured to use a specific IP address, one that won’t change.

Static addresses are great for devices that are permanent, like printers or servers. Most home networks will be fine using DHCP to hand out IP addresses. DHCP servers assign IP addresses that have leases. Once that lease is up, that device might get a different IP address.

From your command prompt, you’re a bit limited in how you can interact with devices on the network. You can attempt to ping an IP address on your network by typing ping 192.168.XX.XXX (Replace the X’s with your IP address.)

Most devices will answer the ping and reply back. This is a quick and easy way to determine if there are any latency issues between your PC and that device. For further troubleshooting, we’re going to need to use some network analyzer tools.

These tools are great for quickly finding devices on your local network and spotting problems fast. They also provide a lot more details than your trusty old command prompt can give you.

If you need more detail and functionality from your Port Scanner then SolarWinds has you covered. You can easily scan your network by IP ranges and filter by ports to identify what services a device is running. SolarWinds Port Scanner is currently a Windows tool only.

SolarWinds Port Scanner also automatically resolves hostnames to help you identify what devices are on your network faster. The GUI interface is easy to use and boasts a cleaner display than Angry IP Scanner.

For those who live in the command line, you’ll be glad to hear this tool comes with a fully functional CLI and support for batch scripting.

While these tools are great, they won’t proactively alert you to problems on your network such as duplicate IP addresses, or DHCP exhaustion.

If you’re a network administrator like myself, you’ll find PRTG Network Monitor an extremely valuable tool when it comes to troubleshooting problems across your network. PRTG is really the evolution of a scanning tool and more of a complete network monitor.

Lastly, PRTG can thoroughly monitor bandwidth and network utilization for your environment. When things slow to a crawl, you’ll be able to quickly identify which IP addresses are using the most bandwidth and pinpoint exactly what that traffic is.

One of my favorite free tools is the Angry IP Scanner. It’s compatible with Mac, Linux, and Windows and allows you to quickly find detailed information about devices that are on your network.

Simply select an IP range at the top and let Angry IP Scanner work its magic. Almost instantly Angry IP will begin pulling information about the IP range you specified.
