Running Wesnoth 1.6.5 on Ubuntu 9.04
I'm physically located in Germany, connected to the internet via a less-than-reliable wireless connection rented from another student.
AddMy previous experiences with Wesnoth have been on a Windows machine in the US, with a wired internet connection owned by my parents.
I'm getting 'Remote host disconnected' on attempts to connect to the addon server, and 'could not connect to host' on attempts to connect to the MP server, either one being after a fairly long delay.
Pinging add-ons.wesnoth.org gives a ping time of ~150 milliseconds.
I have three possible reasons I can think of:

1. Flaky connection: My wireless isn't always the best here, and I'm on the other side of the Atlantic from where I last played Wesnoth. I may be encountering networking problems related to one or both of these (My ping times to the addon server seem fairly decent and consistent though). Where exactly are the Wesnoth servers physically?
2. Config problems on my machine: I'm using a different OS from that which I last played Wesnoth on, so I figure that some default setting in Ubuntu may be causing problems. But I'm not a real networking wiz, so I don't know what I'd have to change.

3. Config problems with my wireless connection: Since I'm renting a wireless connection, I don't own the router I'm connecting through. The connection seems to be fairly gaming friendly: The guy advertises a fair number of games that can be played over the connection as one of his selling points, but I figure there's always the possibility that he has something set up that's incompatible with Wesnoth.

Can anyone give any pointers on how to figure out which of the three possible reasons applies (or if something else does), and what to do about it? (Ie, settings to check on my machine, ways I can figure out if my wireless is interfering, info on whether other users in Europe are also having problems, etc.)
